Glacier Resort / Guaranteed Snow |
Saas Fee is often regarded as the poor relation to the world renowned Zermatt. It shouldn't be as it's a great resort, with excellent snow sure skiing for all abilities, an attractive car free village and humming night life. Saas Fee is a reasonable size resort, built in a traditional style. Most of the accommodation is in hotels and apartments, although there are a few catered chalets.
Saas Fee's height and glacier ensure that snow conditions are invariable good, even late season. Most of the skiing is above 2500 m, which also helps. Beginners are spoilt for choice. The first nursery slopes are perfectly situated in the village, so children can ski and parents can sit in the bar watching. It's easy then to progress further up the mountain for more greens and blues. Intermediates have plenty of cruising runs the longest being from Mittelallalin back to the village, a drop of over 1700m. There are a number of good steep descents for advanced skiers and Saas Fee is the end of extended Haute Route from Chamonix so ski touring is a possibility, but a guide is imperative. Saas Fee has some good mountain restaurants, the most famous being the revolving restaurant at Mittelallalin.
For non skiers, Saas Fee has designated the whole of the Hannig area for walking, tobogganing, paragliding and generally anything which is not skiing or boarding. Apres Ski In addition to the numerous restaurants, the village has ten bars and four night clubs which remain open until dawn.
